7 Leagues Leather is a circular economy fish leather tannery and leather goods start-up. We have big plans.

7 Leagues is built on a future system of employment and manufacturing that respects people and the environment and works at scale. We will create durable and beautiful leather by repurposing waste in the food fisheries using by-product from forestry. We will train and employ those the economy often leaves behind: youth aging out of care, refugees, single parents, Indigenous people. Our weekend and evening community workshops and bookable production space will provide an additional community-supported gathering hub focussed on local sustainable resources, creativity, and regional regeneration.

So, where are we now and when will you be able to buy that leather and those boots?

We aim to have leather for sale before the end of 2020. By 2021, the boots should be ready to walk. We are currently prototyping three new designs, so hold on to your feet because the final product is going to be special. Right now we are also building relationships in the fish processing and forestry sectors to ensure stable supply chains and positive outcomes. Covid has set our timelines back a bit but we’re grateful that this gives us even more ability to take stock and do this right.
