The Iceland Ocean Cluster wanted to know more about North American west coast solutions to fish waste. They interviewed us a while back about our "Skin Deep" fish leather solution, as well as Sara Erickson's AlaSkin dog treats to the north of us.
Sustainable Manufacturing Challenges
You have challenges? We have solutions! Vancouver's real estate is famous for being unaffordable, so how is a scrappy circular economy startup to manage? Creative thinking, that's how! Our current startup space is supported through a partnership with Forest Products Innovation on UBC campus. When we leave here, we may investigate available space in closed fish plants or wood mills in coastal communities with good transportation access. We might also seek expansion and partnerships abroad.
Meanwhile, we are helping Vancouver (which likes to call itself Canada's Greenest City) take a critical look at the link between jobs, manufacturing space, and a liveable city. Are you listening, Vancouver?
Like salmon, we will migrate to the best spawning grounds!
